335 3rd St

335 3rd St. is a 20-unit multi-family housing project in a prime location near Jack London Square and the Port of Oakland, which is one of the busiest container ship ports in the world. Our unique neighbor to the south, The Leviathan building, pays homage to this industrial and maritime history with its form, conceived to mimic the bow of a ship being taken over by a sea-monster, and with its materials, which can be found on the docks. With the design of 335 3rd st, we expanded this metaphor by continuing the idea of a container ship through to our lot. The north and south elevations of our building mimic the pixelated stacking of containers on what would be the stern to the Leviathan's bow.
