Boot and Shoe

Boot and Shoe Service, a busy Oakland restaurant, called us to reconstruct their kitchen. Keeping the focus on high-quality food, they wanted to make the kitchen a point of focus for the restaurant from both the interior and exterior. We designed this two-story 1,400sf addition as a vernacular barn form that can be seen as a landmark from both the back of the restaurant site as well as from the dining patio alongside the new kitchen. The addition was clad in rusted corrugated metal to give it a timeless presence on the site. On the interior, we provided the required new kitchen equipment and storage areas but also gave this kitchen area a warm sense of place, giving staff and access to daylight and fresh air.
