redefining marketplaces
Whole Foods Market, San Jose
We designed a building shell and the project site… The design is organized around the idea of a courtyard – recalling the site’s history as the location of a plum orchard – to create a sense of place in front of the grocery store. A large, wood-clad entry wall with a metal-clad canopy provides organization by acting as signage from Blossom Hill Road and Almaden Expressway and provides the entry point.
Other features include a composite panel rain screen exterior, and a manufactured wood shading trellis. Eco-friendly features include reclaimed wood, local, drought tolerant planting, and vegetated bioswales.
