Lowney Architecture congratulates Janice Y.K. Li for being named a “Woman of Influence” by GlobeSt.com. The annual Women of Influence list recognizes commercial real estate professionals across the country who have personally impacted the market and significantly driven the industry to new heights via their outstanding successes.
“Janice is a highly regarded design and architecture professional with a deep commitment to fostering excellence in her craft and on her teams,” said Lowney Architecture President Ken Lowney. “Her impact and influence enhance the quality of work we deliver, and it also makes our communities better, healthier places to live and enjoy. This is a well-deserved honor, and our firm is proud to have her on the team.”
As part of GlobeSt’s program coverage, the outlet notes that women are still a minority in the commercial real estate industry, but their accomplishments are outsized. Janice’s honoree profile overviews her career path, including what inspired her to become an architect, her notable project portfolio and her focus on mentoring the next generation of professionals in the field.
As Lowney Architecture’s studio director, Janice has been instrumental in growing its Hawaii office. Her efforts to promote the firm as an attractive workplace for talented professionals has led to the exponential growth of the team during the past few years, significantly bolstering the firm’s ability to respond to growing demands for its services in key areas that support Hawaii’s vibrant built environment. Recently, she has been focused on office-to-residential conversions as an affordable housing solution and is working on one of the first buildings in Honolulu to undergo an adaptive reuse transformation of this kind. In Maui, Janice is working on accelerating timelines on a housing project that will help replenish housing stock following the major fire that devastated the City of Lahaina.
Outside of the firm, Janice is a part-time instructor at the University of Hawaii’s School of Architecture, where she teaches graduate-level courses on global practice and advised professional practice. Since 2007, she has been actively involved with AIA Honolulu and was tapped to serve as a mentor for this year’s 5x5x5 group mentorship program. In 2023, Pacific Business News named Janice to its list of “Women Who Mean Business.”
