Our Principals, Associates, and Studio Directors from Oakland and Hawaii enjoyed an off-site leadership retreat at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, CA. The day was jam-packed with discussions about our core values, 10-year vision, and our own post-Covid workplace, as well as general leadership and team building activities. Specifically, the team discussed the future of Lowney and how our vision then compares to the present and what we want the future to look like.
The VR experience transported the team to an intergalactic journey as they were free to roam a model of the International Space Station. Our Director of People Beth Bakulich, recounts the VR experience was sensational and had limited exposure to VR prior to the event. “As we walked through the space station and space, you touch orbs to learn about different aspects of the space station and space. One orb that stuck with me was two astronauts talking, having just learned about COVID, not knowing what it was or truly how anyone was affected beyond what the news, family, and friends told them. They were on the outside looking in. The pandemic was odd/weird/difficult for all of us on Earth. What a truly different perspective being in space and watching what was happening at home, not living it.”
Following the VR experience, our team had a chance to visit an art exhibit curated by artist Ryoji Ikefa. Many of our team members felt electrified and energized by the vibrant lights, Beth mentions “it felt like we were walking into a rave.”
The team finished off the day with a remarkable farm to table dinner at Anaviv’s Table.
