Lowney Architecture congratulates Mark Donahue on his elevation to Principal of Design. In his new role, Mark is responsible for setting and implementing the firm’s design excellence standards and promoting a culture that prioritizes seamless livability across practices.
“Now more than ever, there are myriad issues impacting the way we live, work and shop – from environmental impacts to adaptive reuse. It is essential our built environments go beyond just aesthetically pleasing designs and work to helping address these evolving issues responsibly,” said Lowney Architecture President and CEO Ken Lowney. “Mark has dedicated his entire career to tackling the unique, critical conditions impacting the West Coast. His insights and influence deepen the value of our firm’s work and allow our clients to deliver meaningful projects that support seamless livability in the long term.”
As Principal of Design, Mark focuses on approaches that integrate built and natural systems to enhance design quality and environmental performance. He utilizes research-based strategies and methods that involve modular and prefab, cross-laminated timber and materials that can withstand extreme levels of heat to create communities that are inclusive, accessible, sustainable and resilient.
Mark leverages more than three decades of experience leading projects across a broad spectrum from small, multifamily residential projects to large-scale, complex mixed-use developments. He believes in a truly integrated process from project onset to lay the groundwork for successful delivery. In addition to overseeing and influencing the firm’s standards and practices, Mark is frequently called upon as a speaker to help educate industry audiences on important issues impacting the West Coast region, particularly on strategies for developing more affordable housing resources. He is also an active member of the AIA East Bay Architectural Community on the Environment.
