Multi-Housing News (MHN), a leading multifamily housing industry resource, has bestowed the Truckee Artist Lofts project with a “Best Development & Design” Excellence Award in the Affordable Workforce category. Now in its 18th year, the Excellence Awards honors impactful multifamily developments, business strategies and professionals who are pushing the industry forward. Lowney Architecture, along with development partners Holliday Development and Factory OS, were celebrated at an event in New York City in December.
“Truckee Artist Lofts demonstrates what can be achieved when stakeholders come together to execute on common goals,” said Lowney Architecture President and CEO Ken Lowney. “The entire team, which includes our project partners and the local community, created a space that is realistic to build yet reimagined and compelling through both form and function. I’m proud of what our collaboration has achieved, and that this recognition celebrates our collective effort.”
As part of the judging process, Multi-Housing News noted the utilization of modular delivery methods to enhance the project’s green building strategy. Known as a pioneer in modular design, Lowney Architecture has executed more modular projects than any other architecture firm in California and helped pave the way for this transformative building approach.
Located in Truckee, Calif., Truckee Artist Lofts delivers essential, affordable workforce housing to a community facing the threat of displacement due to rapid gentrification. The project is a 100% affordable, sustainably built, mixed-use complex that prioritizes the health and wellbeing of its residents and the economic vitality of Truckee’s historic downtown. The development comes as the first phase to redevelop a former lumberyard and mill into a vibrant cultural hub by infusing a new type of housing into the area – high-density, multifamily units for full-time residents. In addition to addressing the region’s housing needs, the project responds to other pressing issues, such as seamless livability, sustainability, inclusivity and supporting the local economy.
