This factory-build, mixed-income residential project plays a groundbreaking role in San Francisco’s goal of producing or rehabbing 30,000 housing units by 2020.
The prefabricated components of this project were delivered by a fleet of flatbed trucks weighing over 30,000 pounds to the Bayview neighborhood in San Francisco. A custom rigging system with four structural slings hanging from a crane hoisted each prefabricated module into the air before stacking them on top of one another—floor over floor. Lowney Architecture, in partnership with Holliday Development and Cannon Constructors, delivered what was the largest modular housing development, at the time, erected in San Francisco.
5830 Third Street provides 136 mixed-income units across 4 stories of modular housing. Tenant amenities include a dog rinse area, bicycle storage, kitchenette, community multipurpose room, fitness facility, and 10,500 sf courtyard atop the podium level. Parking is available both at the basement level and ground floor.
