Lowney Architecture was presented with the opportunity to reinvision an underutilized office and retail building situated on a high-value property near downtown Danville, CA.
To bring the building’s mass back to a simple, more legible form, our first move was to remove the existing mansard roof and existing exterior finishes. Recladding the building in a combination of simple, durable materials including vibrant plaster and shiplap cedar siding helped the structure fit into its more contemporary context. We also introduced a muscular, inviting entry canopy to giving the building a stately presence and substantial curb appeal from Hartz Way.
The interior scope included a renovation and expansion of the existing lobby, bathrooms, and the introduction of a new elevator bay.
Our client in this project was able to secure leases for all tenant space in the building prior to construction being completed. The building also won an ‘Outstanding Commercial Remodel’ design award from the Town of Danville in 2016.
