Officially opened in 2014, Clove & Hoof is a neighborhood cafe-butchery that serves Oakland’s Broadway-40th Street corridor. The restaurant is an extension of the coupled owners’ history – taking cues from their experiences working in restaurants, selling meats at farmer’s stands, completing a butchery apprenticeship, and traveling throughout France. The overall design intent was to blend old-timey butcher shop and modern farm flare – showcasing a seasonably changing menu within a traditional, comfortable space. Lowney Architecture assisted the client in efficient programming for back-of-house kitchen space, as well as optimal circulation for both take-out and dine-in customers. The front of the house program includes a daily display of sustainable meats for purchase and a 24-seat cafe for those wanting to enjoy a nice lunch. This establishment was featured on the Food Network’s program, “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.”
