With its grand opening in 2022, HomeRise and BRIDGE Housing Corporation helped develop HomeRise at Mission Bay with the goal of providing supportive housing for formerly homeless residents. The Design Architect, Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, turned to Lowney Architecture for its modular design expertise.
The design intervention lends itself to a “U” shaped configuration, as a single-loaded central wing connects the two perpendicular double-loaded wings together. The building stands four stories tall and opens arms wide onto a beautifully landscaped courtyard that unfolds onto Bridgeview Way.
A total of 141 units were accommodated thanks to the use of a modular approach, optimizing both the design layout and project delivery. In addition to comfortably designed occupant units, on-site amenities include a large courtyard with ample seating areas, fitness trail, dog run and pet station, shared laundry room, resident lounge, along with supportive spaces such as an onsite services suite that provides case management and psychiatric and medical services. Additional communal spaces include a community room with a demonstration kitchen, bicycle parking and community garden.
Project financing included 4% tax credits/bond financing, competitive state credits, the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program, and a loan from the San Francisco Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII).
