Lowney Architecture designed and supported the construction for a new parking garage for MacArthur BART station commuters. The project features 497 Parking spaces on six levels, 5,250 square feet of ground level retail space, and a pedestrian walkway on the East side that leads from MacArthur Blvd to the center of the block. The materials feature textured pre-cast concrete panels, perforated metal screens, and colored glass. The garage is the cornerstone component for the future development of the planned mixed use transit village.
Urban Planning Partners served as the City’s project manager for this catalyst project and was responsible for all staff planning work on the project including the PD/TOD zoning and design guidelines, public presentations, community workshops and outreach, staff reports, and facilitating negotiations on the Development Agreement with the City Council and the developer. Some of the key issues associated with this project included transportation infrastructure constraints, multi-agency involvement, and community opposition.
