Soon to be housed in a former noodle factory in Jack London’s Produce District, this project comprises 69 units, including both standard unit types as well as rooming units to meet the increasing demand for small affordable units in the City. The historical facade is incorporated into the design, creating a link to the rich history of the neighborhood and preserving a key character-defining aspect of the street.
Hidden in the heart of the structure is an urban slot canyon that spans the property from north to south. While its primary aim is to allow light and air into the core of the building, the canyon also creates a private urban oasis, replete with a variety of lush plantings and a cascade of draping vines and ferns. Skylights at the bottom of the space will provide natural light to conference rooms and work areas housed in the floor below.
Above, the roof takes full advantage of views to the marina and the Bay, with outdoor lounges ranging from intimate to highly social. With a built-in bar and barbecues, this dynamic space not only serves the residents, but provides a place for friends and family to enjoy a unique location on the Oakland skyline.
