Lowney has partnered with Holliday Development to lead masterplanning and architectural service efforts for the 75-acre expansion of historic downtown Truckee. The plan transforms the former lumberyard and mill into a vibrant mix of live/work, multifamily and single family housing, office space, food and beverage, and retail programming. Currently in entitlement, The Rail House is a four-story mixed-use building containing retail, restaurant, parking, and luxury residential.
Floor plans are staggered on the north side of the site to work within a solar access plane and prevent the new construction from blocking natural light to neighboring buildings. The Rail House reflects the historic character and scale of Truckee through a mix of facades and changes in material. In addition, the masterplan includes a 4-story, 77-unit mixed-use facility named the Artist Lofts, which is currently under construction. Designated for local artists, the live/work project also includes ground level retail, helping to extend Truckee’s sense of community and contribute to the overall vibrancy and utility ofthe broader Truckee Railyard site.
